IRC as another option for communication?

This is just an idea, and an offer.

I have an irc server that I run, that I basically use to talk to family members, and a few friends at times. If you all would be interested in making a room for StormLab and InterWarn and other things of interest to have another means of users to communicate, you are more than welcome to use my irc server to do so.

If interested just let me know.

You're more than welcome to setup such a service, but to be honest neither Evan nor I have the time to openly chat.

Therefore, without someone to direct questions, etc... toward, I'm not sure how much benefit would be gained. What I like about the forums, while not instant, provides everyone with a permanent record of the discussion and can be searched. Chat only allows those present to see the dialogue, and as soon as you log off, it's gone.

They are the best way to obtain support, and you and Evan do a great job at helping us all whenever we need it.

And although I love both StormLab Pro and InterWarn, and I am still learning more and more about it, I am still not nearly as sound in the ins and outs of it as you, and I'm sure a lot of other users out there.

So if it were to assist you in anyway at all with technical support, it could only be in a manner in which volunteers could come online whenever they were freely available, and willing to do so.

Other than that, I don't know if others would enjoy a chat option, just to be able to chat with other spotters, and weather enthusiasts while keeping an eye on their local storms or not.

It's still just a thought.

Like you said, any replies/comments are welcome, and if enough people would be interested in something such as this, we could set it up.

I could see this idea as something that could be done as a special event type of thing. A chat could be announced ahead of time as an opportunity to meet the Storm Alert team. It could be something done after the new versions are out so you wouldn't be hammered with what is coming questions.
