I'm interested in setting up weather station in my backyard. Is there a model that is moderately priced that has superior performance. I'm a wx spotter for NWS. Thanks.

Stephen,
I second that for Davis Vantage Pro II. I've had mine for a couple years and it's great. Their support staff is excellent also when you need to get replacement parts.

Even better, you shouldn't need replacement parts! Mine has been hit by 2 severe t-storms, small hail, 20" of snow and 2 ice storms and still works flawlessly.
If you really want to do things appropriately, make sure you invest in a wireless anemometer repeater so that you can locate the anemometer up at the correct altitude away from the remainder of the equipment.

For some reason, my wireless transmitter from the ISS bit the dust the day after we went to -10F. I'm sure it was just a coincidence. Other than that, it has worked flawlessly through golf ball sized hail, snowstorms, ice storms, heat waves and high wind events....just like Evan's. :D
A wireless anemometer repeater would be a great thing to have but probably out of my ballpark price range for what I use it for.

Stephen, I also recommend the Vantage Pro II. I have had mine for a couple of years and have never had a problem.

VP II Wireless. But I can attest to the fact that the anemometer will not survive a direct hit from lightning. My cabled VP anemometer took a direct bolt and was blown to pieces and the rest of the equipment was fried due to the cable. VPII wireless now and works great.

Wireless sounds like the way I should go. Come to think of it, I don't think I'd do very well if I took a direct hit from lightning either... :D:D:D
