Forum Outage:
It appears (knock on wood) to have been a coincidence that the increased load on the forum was causing the outage. Turns out several other processes had run amuck, using 100% on all 4 CPUs on the server, and the forum protection was kicking in. Gave it its first reboot in 2 years. A nice side effect is that I noticed the website itself is MUCH MUCH faster. I'll definitely be giving the server a more frequent look at the processes from now on.
