The document below contains the specifications for creating customized overlays in StormLab 4.0. Hopefully it's been revised enough to where it makes sense. Those familiar with the AllisonHouse data format, this is similar, although I feel more adaptable and extensible.

If you wish to create something (i.e. roadway sign markers or anything imagineable) and wish to have us look it over, just shoot me the file and any applicable icon files via email.

Someone asked me a good question.
You can place comment lines throughout your documents by beginning the line with a pound (#) sign. This may help others understand your work and foster the development of new files.
For example,
#This file contains an overlay that plots whatever

I am getting the hang of this but have a quick question.
When you add just text or a location does it support sampling, or is that just for drawing polygons and plotting icons?

Only icons and polylines support sampling. I guess if you're already showing the text, what would you want to sample?

I was thinking it could be useful to have an abbreviation on the radar screen and more info in a sample, but after playing around with this for much of last week I an icon representation looks better anyway. :)

Evan,
Is there anyone anywhere who has a background graphic for KLOT (Chicago) that shows the actual terrain? I know WeatherTap had one for their display. If not, can anyone make one?

Elden,
There are some national backgrounds over at www.stormlabstuff.com that you might want to use.
If not, there is a request section over there also, that you can request for someone to make a background like that for you.
Someone may be able to help you out with it.

Evan,
The link to the word doc is broken.

Try refreshing your bookmarks per the links above. May ultimately remove the .doc link anyways now that an HTML version is present, so I would bookmark that one.
