Real-Time Mesonet Observations Available

With StormLab and real-time dynamc data overlays, it is now possible to do things we could have only dreamed of 5 years ago. Specifically, it is now a reality to view 'live' in situ surface data obtained from chasers / mobile mesonets.

Mr. Bob Fritchie, an OU graduate student, has made his data available for the NWS and the research community, including StormLab 4.0 users. Bob uses well sighted, research grade equipment. He is an aggressive chaser and has repeatedly acquired some incredible near-storm data.

I have worked with Bob today to get this data flowing into StormLab with 1 minute observations available when he is mobile.

Simply plug that into your Weather Overlay section in StormLab Supercharged.

You can sample the plots (much like any other overlay) to view extensive data, and we'll soon have this linked to real-time graphs.

As you guys know, I'm a big observation buff, and I think Bob is really leading to way to provide a structured set of real-time data. I look forward to working with him on future projects.

Feel free to contact me should you have any questions.

Evan

That is awesome for Bob to make his data available to the public. It is always good to see people contribute data and other observations while out chasing.

OK, I have the file.... now where does this go? I don't see a "weather overlay" section in my StormLab...

Jonathon, you won't need to download the file - it's a dynamic URL that Bob created with a script.

Assuming you have SL4 Supercharged, the website above goes the same place you would insert any overlay from SLStuff, AllisonHouse, etc...

Under the Map and Data Overlays setup section, it goes in the "Local Data/Weather Overlays" section.

If you need a tutorial,
